Homemade Terrarium

If you’ve seen my succulent post (Succulent Bandit) you know I’ve been wanting a terrarium for some time. Maybe it’s my mountain-raised youth, but something about a little bowl of earth just makes me calm and happy. I decided to finally make it happen and it was pretty simple!

I pulled together the ingredients:
- Variety of succulents
– Moss (in Portland it is easy to find in every sidewalk crevice this time of year!)
– Small stones (courtesy my neighbor’s driveway)
- Glass container. I chose West Elm’s Shane Powers hanging glass bubble you find here

First I rinsed off my moss and stones, making sure to keep the clump of dirt and roots under the moss. Then I placed the stones in the container, loosened up the roots of my succulents, and placed them on the stones. Last I covered the dirt and stones with the moss and lightly patted everything down. A little repositioning and I was done! Totally easy and it only cost me about $15 instead of $40-100 for the ones I’ve been eyeballing around Portland! Only problem is now I want more… many many more!
